Pushing Limits & Trying New Things
Fitness isn't just about logging miles. It's about exploring different ways to move, recover, and grow stronger. Over the years I've stepped way outside my comfort zone — and discovered some incredible workouts and recovery methods right here in Charlotte.
Whether it was stepping into a sub-zero cryotherapy chamber for the first time or walking into my very first yoga class, each experience taught me something new about what my body can handle.
Cross-training has become an essential part of my fitness journey here in Charlotte. Beyond the miles I log on the pavement, I've discovered that mixing in yoga, swimming, and strength work keeps my body balanced and my mind engaged. There's something refreshing about swapping running shoes for a yoga mat or jumping into the pool for a low-impact swim session. These activities challenge different muscle groups and help prevent the burnout that can come from doing the same thing day after day. Whether I'm flowing through sun salutations or pushing through a tough swim set, each workout adds a new layer to my overall fitness. It's not about being perfect at any one thing, but about staying curious and willing to try something new.
Recovery is just as important as the workout itself, and I've learned that lesson the hard way over the years. Taking time to let my body rest and repair has made a noticeable difference in how I feel and perform. I've explored various recovery methods, from gentle stretching and foam rolling to more focused practices that help soothe tired muscles. Listening to my body has become a superpower, allowing me to know when to push hard and when to pull back. Proper recovery has helped me avoid injuries and stay consistent with my training. It's a reminder that fitness isn't just about what you do during the workout, but also how you care for yourself in between.
Nutrition plays a huge role in how I feel during runs and workouts throughout the week. I've learned that what I put into my body directly affects my energy levels, recovery, and overall performance. Over time, I've found a balanced approach that works for my lifestyle, focusing on whole foods that fuel my active days without feeling restrictive. Staying hydrated, eating enough to support my training, and listening to my hunger cues have all become second nature. I don't believe in extreme diets or cutting out entire food groups. Instead, I aim for variety and moderation, enjoying treats in balance with nourishing meals. This sustainable approach helps me stay energized for all my adventures.
